The most popular way for creating cake designs seems to be using the invitation as the design starting point.

Hand made invitations are so easy to make and will personalise your event beautifully.

The papers that can be found are amazing and instantly give you your colours and maybe even the shape of the cake.

This 40th birthday cake was for an elegant occasion so I kept the design quite simple. You can see in the collage the papers and ribbon used on the invitation.

Unfortunately the cake has not photographed true to colour but you can see the colours that I matched on the invitation paper.

The cake had a band of the plain paper colour around the base and I also gave this a slight linen texture. I also used the font on the invitation as the style of writing on the cake board. The colour of the ribbon became the colour of the cake board.

Some of the more interesting wedding cakes these days use the wedding stationery as a design resource not only for the detail but also the colour and texture. The colour and shimmer effect of a paper can be duplicated on a cake etc. The peacock feather on the single tier was the design on the backing paper and the cake was shimmered to match.

The white flower design band on the two tier cake in soft green match the invitation – this was actually an engagement cake but it fits in perfectly in the wedding cake style. The white flowers sit on a band of darker green and the flower centers had diamante. The cake top was finished with a monogram in the same script as the invitation.

I have also included a white chocolate wedding cake.

The flowers on these cakes cover all categories sugar, fresh and silk. Like I always say anything is possible.

I was asked to add some of my wedding cake ideas to this blog so I am going to do this in two posts. I had not realised that I had missed this so I apologise!

Wedding cakes have changed so so so much from when I made my own many years ago. I think they have more personality and definitely more colour.

These cakes cover single tier, two tier, three tier, double height and birdcage designs. Details include bride and groom penguin topper that I made out of fondant to succulents and still the most popular white sugar roses.

I can not help myself but show the cake I made for my nephew Cooper’s 4th birthday.

The party had a car theme and the cake matched the logo my sister designed for the party decorations.

Cooper just loves cars and loves that there is a car with his name so of course the cake had to be a mini cooper!

I thought I would share the simply decorated cupcakes I made for this years easter egg hunt. It is an annual event at my sisters house. Just simple fondant cutouts and blossoms with some sugar cachous for decoration. Little fondant discs with the wording for Happy Easter were also used. These ideas could be used for any occasion, kitchen teas, baby showers, birthdays of any age etc. Each of the cupcakes had a swirl of my delicious buttercream underneath the sugar decorations.
