wedding cake idea single sugar peony flower with bees Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

Hi, I was asked to show in more detail the wedding cake I have displayed on the side of my blog. So I went searching for the original images and I put this little cake gallery together.

The colours were taken from the wedding invitation as were the little bees.

The flower is my version of a peony or a full open rose and is made from sugar paste – I have made then in all sorts of colours.

The bottom tier is a double height cake which means it is two separate cakes on their own boards set up together before the final layer of ganache and fondant icing. This makes serving the cake very easy as you cut down to the first board, serve the top tier, remove that board then you can serve the bottom tier.

I thought I would share some 4th of July cupcake decorating ideas. They are all simple and use rolled fondant icing.

I think as a mixed display they look fabulous – you can not go wrong with red, white and blue.

You could also just choose one design and keep it as one colour variation or mix it up. So you could choose the stars design and instead of white blue and red some could be red. white and blue and the others blue, red and white etc.

It’s a little hard to see in the cake gallery but the red and white striped cupcake with the blue heart has the blue heart embossed with stars to keep in with the theme.

I think a display of the LOVE design would look amazing.

I also made the paper cupcake cases to match the theme.

The little ghost cupcakes are so quick and easy – they are just marshmallows with eyes that I made out of fondant. I should also say that the instructions for the little nappy / diaper on the baby shower cupcakes can be found on my Baby Shower Cupcakes page.

These are just some very quick and easy ways that I have decorated cupcakes in the past.

Except for the halloween the designs could be used for many occasions. But even those have some ideas that are easily used for other occasions. The fondant discs with letters on them can spell out any message as part of your display or act as monograms. I love the spot on spot discs they are so simple to do and really effect in an endless combination of colours – the trick is to try and keep their placement random and not perfect.

My rolled fondant topped cupcakes actually have a smooth layer of chocolate ganache underneath the icing which helps give them a perfect finish plus it makes them extra delicious!

When I make my cupcake towers I use fondant cover boards trimmed with ribbon in co-ordinating colours to bring the whole display together.

I hope you can use some of these ideas next time you need to decorate cupcakes.

I just wanted to show you a christening cupcake tower that I made last week.

There was a selection of both chocolate and caramel cupcakes which had been topped in either white or pink buttercream (my recipe is so so so smooth http://inspired-by-chocolate-and-cakes.com/chocolate-buttercream.html ) or whipped dark chocolate ganache.

They were baked in pink, silver and gold foil cases to tie in with the christening theme. They were topped with handmade fondant decorations – a mixture of small embossed butterflies in pink and white, pearls, bows and blossoms in pink and white.

Some of the cupcakes were displayed on the families wire cupcake stand and others were packed into display boxes and tied with ribbons as gifts for the guests.

The top cake had a piped design in pink that included butterflies, flowers and a bird amongst the swirls. It was displayed in front on the cupcake tower as I did not chance putting it on top of the slightly wobbly stand!

The whole display looked lovely and I received a wonderful thank you and some photos that I have included in this collage.

The most popular way for creating cake designs seems to be using the invitation as the design starting point.

Hand made invitations are so easy to make and will personalise your event beautifully.

The papers that can be found are amazing and instantly give you your colours and maybe even the shape of the cake.

This 40th birthday cake was for an elegant occasion so I kept the design quite simple. You can see in the collage the papers and ribbon used on the invitation.

Unfortunately the cake has not photographed true to colour but you can see the colours that I matched on the invitation paper.

The cake had a band of the plain paper colour around the base and I also gave this a slight linen texture. I also used the font on the invitation as the style of writing on the cake board. The colour of the ribbon became the colour of the cake board.

This is the second collage of wedding cakes I’m posting today.

Some of the more interesting wedding cakes these days use the wedding stationery as a design resource not only for the detail but also the colour and texture. The colour and shimmer effect of a paper can be duplicated on a cake etc. The peacock feather on the single tier was the design on the backing paper and the cake was shimmered to match.

The white flower design band on the two tier cake in soft green match the invitation – this was actually an engagement cake but it fits in perfectly in the wedding cake style. The white flowers sit on a band of darker green and the flower centers had diamante. The cake top was finished with a monogram in the same script as the invitation.

I have also included a white chocolate wedding cake.

The flowers on these cakes cover all categories sugar, fresh and silk. Like I always say anything is possible.
