21st Birthday Cake idea Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

This 21st birthday cake idea present design has to be my most popular when I’m asked to do two tiers but this week for the first time I was asked to make it in colours other than pink and white!! I was starting to think this would never happen.

21st birthday cake idea girls pink and white inspired by michelle cake designs

This is the original design which was actually the first cake I posted in this blog.

This time the hearts were replaced with polka dots but other than that it is the same. You could also use stars or flowers in the design.

I did include a swing tag with initial in diamante on the top tier.

I really like the tiffany blue, white, black and silver colour combination.

The top tier was white mud cake layered with white chocolate ganache and the bottom tier chocolate mud with dark chocolate ganache.

Wedding Cake Idea with sugar peony rose Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

wedding cake idea single sugar peony flower with bees Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

Hi, I was asked to show in more detail the wedding cake I have displayed on the side of my blog. So I went searching for the original images and I put this little cake gallery together.

The colours were taken from the wedding invitation as were the little bees.

The flower is my version of a peony or a full open rose and is made from sugar paste – I have made then in all sorts of colours.

The bottom tier is a double height cake which means it is two separate cakes on their own boards set up together before the final layer of ganache and fondant icing. This makes serving the cake very easy as you cut down to the first board, serve the top tier, remove that board then you can serve the bottom tier.

4th of July cupcake decorating ideas Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

I thought I would share some 4th of July cupcake decorating ideas. They are all simple and use rolled fondant icing.

I think as a mixed display they look fabulous – you can not go wrong with red, white and blue.

You could also just choose one design and keep it as one colour variation or mix it up. So you could choose the stars design and instead of white blue and red some could be red. white and blue and the others blue, red and white etc.

It’s a little hard to see in the cake gallery but the red and white striped cupcake with the blue heart has the blue heart embossed with stars to keep in with the theme.

I think a display of the LOVE design would look amazing.

I also made the paper cupcake cases to match the theme.

Engagement, wedding cupcake ideas Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

engagement, wedding cupcake decorating ideas inspired by michelle cake designs

These are some engagement cupcakes I made the other week for a lovely couple. The colours and design details match their engagement invitations.

The brown boards you can see are brown fondant covered cake boards with white blossoms and white ribbon trim. These were used to display the cupcakes in the centre of the tables – acting as centre pieces for the evening which I thought was a clever idea as it reduced the costs for the party but still made a lovely and personal display. I have only shown the boards with a few cupcakes on them as I did not want to damage them. The paper cases also matched the theme colours.

The cupcakes were three different flavours – chocolate mud, white mud and caramel mud. Two had rolled fondant tops with chocolate ganache underneath the other design had buttercream swirls.

The little ghost cupcakes are so quick and easy – they are just marshmallows with eyes that I made out of fondant. I should also say that the instructions for the little nappy / diaper on the baby shower cupcakes can be found on my Baby Shower Cupcakes page.

Fun Cake Designs – Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

These are just a few of the fun cake designs I get to make or I guess you could also call them novelty cakes.

Fun cake designs novelty cakes inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

Usually they are for birthday celebrations young and old but there is a wedding cake and a kitchen tea cake amongst them.

I particularly loved the challenge of making the birthday cake bus carry partying dogs to a 30th party – the design came from the smilebox animated invitation.

Confirmation, First Holy Communion Cake Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

This is the communion cake I was talking about when I made the pink, blossoms communion cake post. This cake was actually for a combination Confirmation and First Holy Communion celebration. It was also for a boy and the green colours were inspired by the handmade invitation. Silver was added to match the silver cross which was also used on the invitation.

It was decided stars would be a nice addition as it was for Thomas and they have been used around the base of the cake some on the top and the dove has been embossed with stars.

confirmation first holy communion cake idea Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

I love the simplicity of these two communion cake designs. I think small hearts could also be used and of course any colour combination. I think it could also look amazing in white on white with maybe gold or silver detail if you wanted some colour.

Elmo Cake Designs Inspired by Michelle

Well I have to say I had not realised just how popular Elmo was for birthday cake designs. Since I put my Elmo Cake Topper post up all I have heard about is Elmo so I have put some of the cakes I have done together in this cake gallery.

elmo cake designs cake gallery from inspired by michelle cake designs

They are simple and have great bright colours which young children really respond to. Of the two face cakes of Elmo one is smooth and the other has been made shaggy. The other thing which I should mention is the coloured balls around the base of some of the cakes. They can be all the same size or change from large to small – but the reason for the mention is that this is the first thing the children go for they just love them and most of the time they are just happy to have the balls then wait for the cake to be cut!

Christening Cupcakes Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

christening cupcakes ideas Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

These christening cupcakes were made to be handed out to the guests as they left the church which I think is a delicious Idea.

The cupcakes have been topped with embossed fondant with a layer of chocolate ganache underneath. As an extra special finish the cupcakes were presented in filigree cupcake wrappers in ivory.

Elmo fondant cake topper Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

The other day I had a phone call asking if I could make a birthday cake with an elmo theme – it was for someone who had planned to make the cake herself but things had changed at the last minute and she just did not have the time.

I had to say no as I was already fully booked and could not squeeze another order in no matter how much I wanted to help.

I then received another call filled with hope that I could at least make the elmo cake topper for her so I said yes and I am glad I did because it made me realise that really it was just a variation on my video tutorial on how to make a shaggy teddy bear.

elmo fondant birthday cake topper inspired by michelle cake designs

The only changes I made were to make the arms and legs a little longer and squash his head a little so it was elongated slightly. I painted the inside of his mouth with black food colouring everything else is the same as the tutorial which is very easy but I do have to warn you making the fur does take a little time and it seems all the bears I make these days are the shaggy version but I only have myself to blame as I sit there snipping away!!

Elmo is very popular for birthdays so I hope this is useful.

Lego 6th Birthday Cake with Cheeky Monkey – Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

This is my favourite cake for June and I have to admit it is purely because I made it for my amazing nephew Jasper’s 6th birthday.

Jasper is a master at constructing lego so I started with a simple lego block and then added the cheeky monkey from the birthday card I bought for him.

Confirmation Cake Idea Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

This is a girls confirmation cake design that I made lat week and I was really pleased with the final result. It used white, soft pink and an almost mushroom pink/brown as it’s colour scheme.

girls confirmation cake idea inspired by michelle cake designs

The design is simple but elegant with an embossed dove and cross on the top. White blossoms some with a pink centre soften and sweeten the design. A little sugar paste butterfly with the inscription finishes the design.

I’m doing a variation of this for a boys confirmation next week so I will also make a post for that cake.

I think variations of this would work well for many occasions. The dove could be replaced by a monogram, birthday number or even just a cross for a christening cake.

Decorated cakes in Purple Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

Cake decorating ideas in purple Inspired by Michelle Cake Designs

Purple cakes are very popular especially when butterflies are involved – I have no idea why I guess people who like purple also like butterflies!

Just because these designs are in purple does not mean they would not look great in any other colour combination.

I have been having fun looking back at my albums and grouping cakes by colour.
